This science is based on antioxidants. We need the antioxidants to fight off free radicals, which can lead to a host of diseases when left unchecked. Oxidative stress results when free radicals are allowed to run rampant in our bodies. This can cause damage eventually leading to many chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, heart attacks, cardiovascular diseases, chronic inflammation, stroke, aging, and other degenerative diseases.
Oxidative stress is also linked heavily to neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and ALS. Those are pretty scary implications (with many studies to back them up). In the short run, oxidative stress leads to chronic inflammation that we may not even know we have because it often doesn’t result in the typical pain associated with the word inflammation. Chronic inflammation can manifest in allergies, asthma, depression, autoimmune diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, and Crohn’s.
In order to prevent excessive oxidative stress, we have to ingest antioxidants every day because our bodies don’t make them on their own.

- 4 lbs. of carrots, 8 oranges, or 2 cups blueberries!!! A serving is 2 ounces so go ahead and double those numbers!
