June 1st: The Day Everything Changed
There are days that pass without much notice—and then there are days that divide your life into “before” and “after.”
June 1st is that day for me.
It marks a divine turning point. A moment of answered prayers, holy nudges, and courageous decisions. The day I chose purpose over discomfort.
Aside from my saying YES to my husband the day he proposed, saying YES to this company proved to be one of the best decisions ever!
The Backstory…
It was 2010, I was 27 years old, newly married that April, and working in a cubicle at a major insurance company in the total loss department. I came home in tears most days. I felt stuck and deeply unfulfilled. I prayed daily for something to change. I applied for jobs but had no time off after using all my vacation for the wedding and honeymoon. I was running on empty and craving something more meaningful.
Then something unexpected happened.
A week before my wedding, I was getting a hair trial done. A woman named Valerie was in my stylist’s chair. Through casual conversation, I learned she might be transitioning to a new job—and if she got it, she'd need to help fill her current position. I just happened to have my resume in my purse. I gave it to her on the spot.
After my honeymoon, I followed up. Valerie kindly passed my resume to her boss. I didn’t even have the PTO to go to the interview, but I took points to attend—and studied like it was a final exam in college.
A few days later, I got the call...
I was hired.
Instead of starting a new role on June 1st at the insurance company, I was beginning something entirely different. Something life-changing.
Cubicle to Clinics
I said yes to a nutraceutical company that made natural supplements for people and pets. I was hired into the animal division—completely new to the industry but ready to learn, grow, and give it my all.
I went through intense training with our corporate trainer, Kelly, who laid the foundation for everything I’d need to know.
Then I hit the road with Pam, one of our territory sales managers, for hands-on field training. Pam is the one who took me to meet Donna, one of the oldest hippos in captivity at the time, during a visit to the Indianapolis Zoo. That photo, taken June 8, 2010, will forever be a treasured memory.
I met so many incredible people at that company. People who mentored me, believed in me, and helped shape the trajectory of my life. I can’t wait to share more about them in future posts.
Purpose Over Paychecks
Instead of clocking into a soul-draining job to process insurance claims, I pounded pavement, drove thousands of miles, talked to hundreds of doctors, visited veterinary clinic after vet clinic, gave presentations upon presentations, educated distributors, and shared the science behind wellness and prevention for 5+ years.
I used my voice—my gift of connection—to make a real impact. I learned how our bodies (and our pets’ bodies) are divinely designed to heal when given the right support.
That job opened my eyes to the corrupt sick-care system, sparked my passion for preventative health, and changed the way I view wellness forever.
Why I Celebrate June 1st
Because it reminds me to:
- Trust divine timing.
- Listen to the nudges.
- Take the risk, even when it’s scary.
- Stay ready—you never know who you’ll meet or what door they’ll open.
- Say yes to the things that stretch and grow you.
