If you’ve ever lost access to your Facebook account, you know how unsettling it can be. After my account was hacked and suspended, I realized just how vulnerable my online presence was. Thankfully, I had backed up my Facebook data about a year ago at the suggestion of a mentor of mine, which meant that while I didn’t have everything, I didn’t lose it all. For fifteen years I've been sharing my life on Facebook, staying in touch with family, connecting with friends, networking with acquaintances, and building my design business in the summer of 2022. And in the blink of an eye, it’s all gone. My account was hacked, and whatever the hacker did caused Facebook to suspend it within minutes. So grateful I'm not a major influencer with thousands of followers with a monetized account connected to FB Pay, my social security number, or my banking information.

Struggling to regain access to my hacked Facebook account has been an exhausting and infuriating experience. What I thought would be a straightforward process to regain access turned into a nightmare. The process Meta puts you through is beyond ridiculous, and it's time we demand more from these tech giants when our accounts are compromised.

Over the course of 4 weeks, I received 6 different emails from Meta, claiming that I was in violation of their community standards and warning me that my account was at risk of being suspended. After seeing these messages repeatedly, I finally clicked the link provided to log in and resolve the issue. Within minutes, my account was hacked, and whatever they did led to my account being disabled almost immediately. I was in the middle of using Facebook Messenger when I suddenly lost access.

It’s been 24 hours since my Facebook account was hacked and subsequently disabled, and the experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. For 15 years, I've shared my life on this platform—photos, videos, chats, stories, pages, content, and education.
